In just two days’ time, on April 22nd, we’ll be celebrating another Earth Day. Earth Day originated in 1970, when a nation came together to bring awareness to sustainable living. Now, in its 48th year, Earth Day has become a global event that sheds light on some of the major issues facing the planet today like pollution, energy consumption, water conservation and reducing your carbon footprint. There are little things that you can do everyday that will have a big impact on your carbon footprint. For example, simply by adjusting your thermostat two degrees up in the summer and two degrees down in the winter, you can reduce your carbon footprint by 2,000 pounds. Other Earth Day tips include:
- Turning off the lights when you leave a room
- Bring reusable bags when you shop
- Use cloth towels instead of paper ones
- Sign up for online bills instead of paper ones
- Keep your tires proper inflated
- Use non-toxic cleaning products

As a part of the green building industry, ProGreen is always supportive of sustainable living and eager to recognize Earth Day. Yes, as a manufacturer of artificial grass, ProGreen is in the green building industry. Synthetic turf is a green product and even earns your home or building LEED credits for its water conserving properties. Irrigating a natural lawn consumes a majority of a typical household’s water usage, which is why so many cities have restrictions on days and hours in which you are allowed to water your lawn. Installing an artificial lawn eliminates this water consumption altogether, drastically reducing your water usage.
Of course, water conservation is not the only problem facing the planet today, which is why Earth Day is so important. Take a look at the list of Earth Day tips and make a vow to incorporate at least one of these suggestions into your daily habits. At ProGreen, we print on both sides of a piece of paper, and we read online as much as possible to reduce the amount of paper that we print. What kind of things do you do at your home or office?
